It was early morning when Juniper found herself outside on the grassy hills outside her house. Aspen was still sleeping and Mom had yet to come home. Cool breezes combs through her hair like a gentle hand, and Juniper takes a moment to bask in it. Her shoulders loosen and relax and her whole posture seems to melt into the calming atmosphere. It had been a long time since she got a break like this. Between taking care of Aspen's recent bout of sickness, to mom still being gone for nearly a week this time, it was a lot for her. She was happy to help. Nothing made her prouder than helping the ones she loved, but it was… taxing to say the least.
Star finally gives in to her body's demands to lie down and settles comfortably on the dew-dropped grass. The small droplets feel nice against her scales; she can almost pretend it's rain. They hadn't gotten some in some time, but she could be patient. It made it all the more precious when the skies did bless her with such a gift, thank Selûne. Juniper closes her eyes and soaks in the peace.
'Selûne, give me a sign. Please, I'll take anything. I just want to know I'm going down the right path...'
She waits with bated breath, hoping for the smallest change in atmosphere to give her something to work with.
A minute passes…
Then two…
Star lets out a big whoosh of air as star stops holding her breath. Her body deflates in defeat. Tears sting at her eyes, but she refuses to let them fall. Star takes a deep breath in and out, watching as the sun begins to climb above the horizon. With that, she gets up and brushes herself off of any nature that might've stuck to her clothes and begins her descent down the hillside, defeated but slightly more recharged than when she first came out here. As she nears the bottom of the hill, the small cozy house of the Cross family coming into view, she feels a single wet drop on her face. She knows it's not from tears and she looks up.
A light summer drizzle bathes the morning light and creates a small but noticeable rainbow in the sky. It feels good to see that… like maybe all she had to do was be patient, and maybe her time would come eventually.
All she had to do was get through the hard part.
'Thank you Selûne for guiding me down your path of healing and life. I hope I can make you proud.'
